Share
With a country that is the second largest coffee exporter in the world and owns many different types of coffee like Vietnam; Surely you are no stranger to the culture of "morning coffee". But do you know how many types of coffee our country has and which type is the most popular today?
Vietnam is considered to possess a diverse and delicious coffee asset with a distinctive flavor. But below are the 6 most popular types of coffee consumed today.
1. Robusta
Robusta coffee, also known as Robusta coffee, is a popular plant in Vietnam. It is used almost the most in coffee shops today.
The plant can grow into a tree or shrub, reaching up to 10 meters in height in natural conditions. This plant usually grows well in low-lying areas, below 1000 meters above sea level. Robusta coffee beans are known for their strong aroma, characteristic bitter taste and high caffeine content. Thanks to these characteristics, Robusta coffee has become a favorite drink of many Vietnamese people because it will produce a very rich, unforgettable product.
Currently, Vietnam is one of the largest Robusta coffee producing countries in the world, concentrated mainly in the Central Highlands provinces such as Dak Lak, Lam Dong, Gia Lai and Dak Nong.
2. Arabica Coffee
Arabica coffee has long been considered the "nobility" in the world of roasted coffee, highly appreciated for its delicate flavor and premium quality.
In Vietnam, the Arabica coffee growing area accounts for a small proportion, mainly concentrated in the Central Highlands with suitable climate and terrain. In addition, some northern mountainous provinces such as Yen Bai, Son La and Dien Bien have also begun to experimentally grow this coffee variety.
The tree usually grows well at an altitude of 1000 to 1600 meters above sea level, with a cool and foggy climate. Arabica coffee beans are oval in shape, larger in size than Robusta beans, and have an extremely rich flavor. The aroma of Arabica is often complex, with notes of flowers, fruits and chocolate, along with a characteristic light sour taste. The caffeine content in Arabica is lower than that of Robusta, making it an ideal choice for those who love a strong flavor but do not want to be too stimulated. Because of these superior characteristics, Arabica coffee is always sought after and has a higher price than other types of coffee.
This is also a very popular type of coffee in the West. But recently, many coffee shops in Vietnam have started using this type of bean as the main bean for their products.
3. Liberica Coffee
Liberica coffee, also known as jackfruit coffee, is a unique and promising coffee variety. Liberica trees are known for their strong adaptability, can grow well in many different climates and are resistant to pests and diseases.
However, due to its distinctive flavor and lack of widespread popularity, Liberica coffee currently accounts for only a small percentage of the global coffee market.

The flavor of Liberica coffee has its own unique characteristics, not as strong as Robusta nor as elegant as Arabica. The light sourness, a little astringency and refreshing aroma create a unique coffee experience. Liberica's low caffeine content is also a plus for those who want to enjoy coffee without being too stimulated.
4. Culi Coffee
Besides familiar names like Arabica or Robusta, Culi is a special type of coffee and is increasingly popular in Vietnam. Grown mainly in the Central Highlands, Culi coffee also appears in some other provinces such as Da Lat, Quang Tri and Nghe An.
The special thing about Culi coffee lies in the beans. Unlike most other coffees that have two beans in each fruit, Culi coffee has only one bean. This uniqueness comes from a natural variation, which makes Culi coffee beans develop more fully and concentrated, thereby creating a delicious and characteristic flavor. Moreover, the caffeine content in Culi beans is often higher than that of regular coffees, providing a rich and refreshing experience.
5. Moka Coffee
Moka - A special coffee variety of Arabica, always highly appreciated by coffee connoisseurs. Known for its rarity and unique flavor, Moka coffee has become a symbol of high quality in the coffee world.
Growing Moka coffee requires high technology and very special natural conditions. Moka trees are quite sensitive to pests and climate, so the yield is always limited. In Vietnam, Da Lat is considered the ideal land for growing Moka coffee, with a cool climate, nutritious red basalt soil and evenly distributed rainfall throughout the year.
Thanks to these favorable natural conditions, Da Lat Moka coffee has a unique flavor, a harmonious combination of light bitterness, light sourness and a bit of richness, creating a truly sophisticated coffee experience.
Nowadays, this type of coffee is used more as a gift than used in coffee shops.
